Hi I have picked two Sachs s7 super 7 speed hubs one compete with cable and twist grip and one without but hope to find one on EBay later . So as soon as I get back from my holidays I will be starting a new restoration with one of the 7 speed hubs in place but before I start on the C5 restoration I will be stripping the hubs down and cleaning and greasing them and also making sure they work I know the one with the twist grip works as I tested it before taking it off the bike ..
The Gear ratios are as follow

1st gear = 0.59
2nd " = 0.69
3rd " = 0.81
4th Direct drive
5th. " = 1.24
6th " = 1.48
7th. ". = 1.69

That is at it was on the bike but it will change when I put the other cog on (if I can get it welded on ok )
Bye Chas

I have been testing the hubs today using a wheel straightener that I made .And swapping over the cable and click box twist grip and the pin that goes through the spindle from one to the other before I buy any parts and it looks like they are both good
What I will do is to as my friend to order the items off eBay in Germany ...
Will post some photos ASAP

Hi Just made up the 7speed hub bracket and fitted it to the frame .
Then fitted the hub to it just checking that it fits ok and it does ,so the next thing was to get a cog for the back wheel so I decided to use a 6 speed cog but it will not be fastened in place until I have done some test on peddling speeds as I do not know how fast or slow I will have to peddle .
So I will fit the cog on the back axle so that it will move from the small cogs to the biggest ones then making chains to all sizes then I will have some idea where to weld it

As expected your work looks great. One thing I don't understand though, how will such a short chain have enough flex to move across all six cogs?

SINCLAIR C5 CHAS posted:

Hi there Ray I will be making six chains one to fit each cog and then just fit one at a time to do some testing as I am not sure how it will drive .
At the moment I have made two chains I will be making more today .But first of all I need to get the cog welded on to the hub then I will put the wheels on and check the speed for each cog then when I am satisfied I will have the cogs welded onto the back axle and just use one .

Hi I have also been doing some testing and still not sure how it will run I decided to make a smaller front crank (35 teeth ) the original has 42 teeth
In the meantime I will be making two chains and try both but not until it has been finished ...

Hi just finished testing the hub on the frame also fitted the rear brake mod .
Regarding the hub I wanted to make sure that I geared it down to make it easer to peddle when You come across an incline or want to get some speed up but as with the normal C5 you have to peddle hard to keep it going ,without the7speed hub turning the front crank around once will turn the wheels round twice
.Here is the gearing using the 7 speed hub after gearing it down .
First gear would give you when the crank goes round once the wheels will go round 1.15 times

Sec gear would give you 1.25 turns
Third gear. 1.50 " "
Forth gear. 1.75. " "
Fifth gear 2.00 " " same speed as it would be without the hub being fitted
Sixth gear. 2.75 " "
Seventh 3.00 " "
So it will make it a lot easer to peddle up hills and also to peddle faster on the straight .

Photos to follow
The next thing it to restore the C5 and do a proper test with all the gears with me on it

Hi just had some time to do a little work on the 7speed hub .It seemed to be ok inside but took it outside to check it out and realised that the chain kept coming off realised that the problem was the chain on cog that went from the hub to the back axle it was to thin .
What I had used was a section from a 6 speed cassette cut off the one that fitted and bolted it on to the hub but as I said the chain would not stay on .Anyway found a cog that seemed to be ok twice as thick had the centre cot out and drilled the fit the hub fitted and now it works great when the back wheels are jacked up .I will be taking it for a test run today before sorting out the wiring (control box Pod) but before all that I did some checks on the Hub to see what difference it will make .

Here are the results of the testing of the Hub

1st gear the wheels will turn 1-25 times for one full turn of the peddles

2nd gear the wheels will turn 1-50 times for one full turn of the peddles

3rd gear the wheels will turn 1-75 times for one full turn of the peddles

4th gear the wheels will turn 2-25 times for one full turn of the peddles

5th gear the wheels will turn 2-75 times for one full turn of the peddles

6th gear the wheels will turn 3-25 times for one full turn of the peddles

7th gear the wheels will turn 3-75 times for one full turn of the peddles

Bearing in mind that one turn of the peddles on a normal C5 the wheels will go round twice \:d/ \:d/
